We support women this month and beyond - "Afro West Moment"
It is August again and we commemorate the women's march of 9 August 1956, when 20 000 women of all ages, races and all walks of life came together and marched towards the union buildings in Pretoria now Tshwane. Back then they were protesting strict pass laws that sought to restrict their movements, today women face different challenges - like poverty, unemployment, marginalisation, abuse just to name a few. This march brought together White, Black, Coloured, Indian and all the colours of the rainbow - Now thats a classic "Afro West Moment" when different people unite for one cause.
